My Mother and Homeland
(Episode – 12 ) Part – 5
when Mary’s smile was full of warmth — not sharp like it was now. When she first came into this house as a bride, her eyes were filled with dreams.
Back then, life felt simple. It was just Lila, Daniel, Ethan, and Mary — a small but happy family. Lila would proudly say,
“I need to find someone just like her for Ethan.”
Ethan had dreams too — a car, a home in the city, a life others would admire.
But everything changed.
Daniel’s business collapsed.
Ethan had just finished his studies and had no stable income.
Slowly, financial pressure took over their lives. Surviving in the city became almost impossible.
After thinking deeply, Ethan made a decision—
“You all move back to the village. I’ll go to Chicago. I’ll try to build something there.”
Daniel agreed with a heavy heart.
Lila didn’t want to let him go.
But reality left her no choice.
And just like that, Ethan left.
Daniel stayed in the village with his family.
Everything has changed since then.
Because sometimes…
when distance grows — hearts grow distant too.
After a while, Mary returned again, smiling.
“Well… she came, saw you, and left. And you didn’t even notice!”
She paused, then added—
“She was really impressed. Said—‘Such a handsome man… and still unmarried?’”
Mary looked straight at Ethan and said.
“Ethan… You should get married..
Otherwise, we can’t even save face in front of others.”
Ethan said nothing. He simply looked at her—. quiet… and completely helpless.
