Novel Series
My Mother and Homeland
A Mother’s Last Hope – Part One (Episodes 1– 2 Complete)

Ethan’s mother was on her deathbed. The news reached him, and he rushed from New York to see his beloved mother. Seeing his little son near her, the mother suddenly came back to life. She hugged him tightly and cried, saying :
— You have come, father! I am probably still alive because of waiting for you.
Ethan’s chest heaved with anguish. The tears in his eyes could no longer hold it. He wanted to wash away the stain of all his incompetence with those tears. With a voice choked by emotion, he said :
— “Mom… if you can, please forgive my helplessness.”
— “No, Ethan. You are not helpless. You are my precious one. Even if no one else understands you, I do. The fire in your chest will surely take you to your goal one day.
But—
— “But what, Mom?”
— “Perhaps… I won’t be around to see that day.”
Ethan held her tighter.
— “No, Mom! Nothing will happen to you. I won’t let you go, no matter what.”
Through the pain, his mother, Lila, managed a gentle smile.
— “Time is harsh, my son. Everything is the will of the Creator. Who can stop it? Not even you.”
Listen—
— Tell me, Mom.
— “Promise me one thing, Ethan. It might bring you luck.”
— “It’s not a request, Mom. It’s an order. Tell me.”
— I understand that my time is running out. The last time… don’t leave me and go anywhere else. Stay by my side. At least let me breathe my last in peace and say goodbye—only then will my soul find peace.
Haring this last wish of his mother, the Ethan was stunned. He stared at his mother’s face like a stone statue. He wiped away the tears that had rolled down the corners of his mother’s eyes with utmost compassion. He swallowed hard. He said in a choked voice—
— “Mom… you know everything… why did I stay so far in New York and leave you in the village?”
— “Yes, Ethan, I know. I understand everything.”
— Then why did you put me through such a difficult test even though you knew?
— It’s not a test, father, this is my last wish. Tell me, will you keep it?
Ethan thought quietly for a long moment. He realized: I’ve accomplished much in life… perhaps I’ll do more. But I may not get another chance to fulfill my mother’s last wish.
Then he said softly:
— “Alright, Mom. I will stay by your side. Give me your blessing.”
Lila wiped them away and said:
— “Don’t worry. My blessing is with you. You’ll grow to be great. I know fulfilling my final wish will cost you much, yet selfishly, I want to hold you close… Why? Because after I’m gone, you will be very alone. No one will truly belong to you. Then even your existence may be questioned.”
Ethan was stunned. He had always known his mother, Lila, was extraordinary—almost like a sage. She seemed to foresee everything. Whenever he asked, she would smile sweetly and say: “You’ll understand when you grow up.”
Even now, he was still in awe. A deep fear settled inside him.
— “Why, Mom? My elder brother, sister-in-law, and little Annie… they are all so close to me.”
Lila, with a faint smile despite her pain, said :
— “Did I ever say that they are not the closest to you? But the world is very strange… Human minds are even more strange. Everyone is busy with their own interests. How many think like you?”
It is not known whether he fully understood the depth of his mother’s words, but a sigh remained buried in his chest. He realizede — the road ahead is not smooth.
— “You’ve come a long way. Wash up, eat something,” his mother said gently.
Just then, his elder brother, Daniel, entered the room. He slipped his mother’s prescription for medicine into the Ethan’s hand and said :
— Buy these and bring them. I am leaving, it is getting late.
Before Ethan could respond, Daniel left. Ethan stood quietly, then noticed his sister-in-law, Mary, walking toward the well with washing to do. A glimmer of hope sparked in his heart.
— “Mary… I need to speak with you.”
Even though Mary looked up, she did not respond. Yet Ethan stood beside Mary and looked at her humbly.
There was no sign of satisfaction in Mary’s eyes. Ethan stood humbly beside her. There was no sign of relief in Mary’s expression and she was avoiding his gaze. However, Yet Ethan’s sincere faith was not broken. Relying on great human trust, she slowly said :
Mary, I had left New York only after collecting the money for the car rental. When I heard about Mom’s illness, I had to come. I couldn’t tell Daniel… and truthfully, I don’t have enough to buy medicine. If you could help—”
Before he finished, Mary’s stern voice cut through :
— “I have no money. I don’t earn anything either; you know that.”
Ethan was shocked. The tearful Ethan could not have imagined that such a misfortune would make the final moment even more terrifying. He remained speechless for a few moments.
After his mother, the one he considered closest to him in this world, the one he considered to understand, to respect, to feel happy in his happiness, to be sad in his sadness, is this Mary! The words that Ethan could not dare to say even to his elder brother.
Lest he would scold him. He rushed to Mary to say them without hesitation. How sincerely can a person surrender to another person if they give space to him in their heart? It may be impossible to explain in words or in writing.
So, is my mother’s idea correct? In the absence of his mother, is there no one left to call Ethan his own? Who will understand Ethan, know Ethan!
Mary remained busy with her work. Nevertheless, she did not make the mistake of glancing at Ethan a few times with a furtive glance. Ethan stood there for a while like a condemned prisoner, then silently left the place and headed towards the pond.
Standing by the edge of the pond, Ethan fixed his gaze ahead in silence. The morning sun had just begun to spread its gentle light, casting a golden glow over the surrounding trees. The branches swayed softly, as if whispering in calm harmony with nature.
What a peaceful scene… Slowly, the quiet beauty of the moment began to ease the heavy pain buried deep inside him.
Suddenly, a few weaver birds chirped and flew away from their nests.Ethan’s eyes drifted toward the old palm tree standing at the northwest corner of the pond—still there, as if guarding a silent witness to a terrible scene from the past.
Just beside that tree lay their ancestral cremation ground. And there, in eternal rest, was his beloved father. A deep ache filled Ethan’s chest. Memories began to surface—
A modest household, struggling with financial hardship, yet filled with an unexplainable warmth and peace. Whenever his father returned home from the distant shop, there would be a glow of quiet joy on his face.
That joy brought comfort and hope to young Ethan. But after a few days, everything would change again — A shadow would fall over his father’s expression, His mother would grow silent and distant. As a child, Ethan never understood why.
Whenever he asked, his father would simply smile, pull him close, and shower him with affection.
In this way, drifting through waves of joy and sorrow, before Ethan could even finish school — his father was gone.

Episode 1 – The Call
The mobile phone rang. Sophie reluctantly picked up the phone and pressed the yes button.
— How are you Sophie?
A very emotional and charming voice. Which was mesmerizing.
Surprised, Sophie thought for a moment. This is how he called by name —
Sophie replied – Please, what is your identity?
A voice came from the other end without hesitation
— I am Adrian.
Suddenly, electricity seemed to play throughout her body. All the annoyance disappeared in an instant. Sophie became a different person. The coldest touch of all the accumulated love in the world seemed to cool her down with utmost care.
The pure stream of love was sending waves of happiness throughout her body and mind.
Sophie’s silence made Adrian think .
Adrian said again — Hello.
With a sigh, Sophie asked,
—How are you Adrian?
— Good.
— Adrian, where have you been all this time?
Unanswered Adrian
— I have searched for you in many ways.I have asked people I know for your address but I have not found it.
— “Why were you looking for me?”
— I will beg for your forgiveness.
Adrian was unprepared for such an answer. So he remained silent.
Noticing Adrian’s silence, Sophie said
— Please Adrian. Don’t be silent like this. Say you will forgive.
— You have no crime. Why are you only trying to make me a criminal by apologizing?
— Adrian, that is your greatness. To whom destiny has placed me. — Greatness never tries to belittle anyone.
— So I assume my idea is correct?
— What?
— I am not even worthy of forgiveness.
— No, Sophie. Don’t say that. I couldn’t even muster the courage to forgive you.
— But Adrian. I really need your forgiveness today. Just as the dark world wants to be purified by the rays of the sun shining in the eastern sky, removing all its darkness, so too will I be purified by your forgiveness.
— Illusion. Sophie. All is an illusion of your mind.
— Adrian I will meet you. Please allow me.
— What will happen if I meet you?
— At least I will get the opportunity to apologize from close quarters.
— Am I that lucky?
— The one who chooses the flower knows which flower can be offered to which god. And how much happiness. How much peace there is in that offering.
Adrian let out a deep sigh without realizing it.
A deep sigh escaped him.
“Alright… I’ll send you the address.”
Even after all these years…Why does this weakness still exist?
After all these years… why does this weakness still remain?
Why does his voice still make my heart flutter?
Adrian thought.
If I hadn’t accidentally met Emily Carter that day, if I hadn’t taken Sophie’s phone number – would everything have been okay?
But was there still a faint breath deep in his heart?
That might have shed a bright light of joy.
Or was there still something alive — hidden deep in his heart?
Something that still shines — like soft moonlight in the darkness.
A beautiful light has come and gathered in the college corridor. Rows of tree shadows have proudly competed to stand tall. Adrian stood in the corridor. Suddenly, he heard sweet voice and looked back.
The beautiful sunlight and Sophie’s sweet smile seemed to merge into one. Adrian said in surprise –
– Are you talking to me?
— Yes.
— Tell me.
— Your name is Adrian?
— Yes. But –
— How did I know?
Sophie’s simple smile – like a great rhythmic waterfall, her ever-changing nature fascinated Adrian.
— My name is Sophie. I live in the teachers’ staff quarters. I heard you from Uncle Michael.
— Okay.
— “Come by this evening… we can talk.”

The college campus was alive with color.
Trees lined the pathways, their leaves shimmering softly in the afternoon light. The garden bloomed with flowers of every shade, while butterflies wandered freely from one to another.
Tall eucalyptus trees stood proudly at the center, casting long, gentle shadows.
Near the boundary wall, a flame tree swayed lazily in the breeze — its presence filling the air with a quiet sense of peace.
Adrian stood there, still.
Sophie’s footsteps…
though long gone… felt like they were still calling him.
Pulling him into a world that didn’t exist — a place made of dreams,
where everything felt possible, where happiness had no end.
A sudden touch on his shoulder broke the moment.
Adrian turned. Chandan stood behind him.
“Hey, what are you doing here? Not going back to your room?”
“Yeah… let’s go.”
They started walking.
After a moment, Chandan spoke —
“You’re really lucky, you know.”
Adrian’s heart skipped. Did he just read my mind?
But Chandan continued —“I always wanted to study your subject… but I couldn’t.
And you — you got exactly what you wanted.”
Adrian felt a quiet smile form inside him.
No… I found something more than what I wanted.
But he said nothing.
Chandan kept talking — about this, about that —
But Adrian wasn’t really listening anymore.
His thoughts were somewhere else.
After a while, Chandan headed toward his room.
Adrian walked into his own.

The Value of a Kind Heart Is Greater Than Wealth

I could see my mother’s great affection for dogs. Feeding the dog with love and affection. Keeping some food from her own food for the dog. Calling and petting the dog whenever she got the chance, these things were like a habit. For this, many people sometimes had to be annoyed. Still, my mother did all these things
One day, I asked my mother in passing – Mother, your love for dogs knows no bounds. That is why many people are annoyed. Why, mother?
In response, the mother would say with a calm smile – “My son. The dog is very grateful and devoted to the Lord. He does not get tired of doing the difficult task of guarding the Lord at night. He comes and waits in front of the Lord for hours.
He sleeps when necessary. Still, he does not easily leave the householder and goes anywhere else. He does not get bored or do anything. He just sits and waits for a handful of food. When he sees the Lord, he wags his tail with joy. He looks forward to receiving a little affection. Finally, he eats whatever he gets and is satisfied. He has no complaints against anyone.
He is not angry at being given less food. Rather, he continues his duty according to his rules. He does not have to take any orders for his work. Whatever is good for the Lord, he does every day. He even tries to help the householder by risking his own life in any trouble. There is no shortage of such examples.
He does not even think about what he will get in return or what he has received.
In other words, the Lord’s benefit “Doing is the natural instinct of a dog.“

The True Value of a Kind Heart –

Despite this, almost all of us kick dogs. If it steals food due to extreme hunger, we do not forgive it. We do not even hesitate to beat it. On the other hand, cats are lazy pets. Generally, they are not seen as useful except for chasing mice. However, the cat’s interest in chasing mice is more than the benefit of the householder.
Whenever the cat gets the opportunity, it spoils the food by eating the food of the owner.
It is not in its nature to see the good or bad of the householder.
There is also a village proverb – the cat prays for the boon of the householder to be blind so that it can steal the food of the householder. And the dog prays for the boon of the householder, i.e. the owner, to increase the family. So that they can fill their stomachs by eating the food thrown away by the household.
Despite this, almost all of us love and care for cats more than dogs. Starting from feeding them milk to laying them on the soft bed they like, we find peace.
Similarly, there are some people in society who are very helpful in mind. They feel happy to help others. They do not hesitate to take great risks for the sake of others.
However, it is seen that these altruistic, selfless people are mostly oppressed in society. They are more victims of humiliation and deception from the people who benefit. On the other hand, those people who are clever, skillful, like flies in milk, take advantage in good times; look for opportunities to cause harm in bad times.
It is seen that all those people create stories of winning life by collecting praise behind the mask of being good people.
Friends, this story is a brutal reality that has been proven time and again.
But friends, it should be remembered that the company of a truly kind-hearted person is more valuable than a lot of money and

prestige. In comparison to what he can give you – me in need.

In many cases, money – wealth and prestige are forced to accept defeat. “The real value of a person is in his heart, not money or influential position.” Continuous good wishes for everyone –

. An Unexpected Letter –
I was a student of class 8 at that time. The market was located about a kilometer away from the village. The post office was in that market. The post office was the best means of communication at that time. My uncle had a shop in that market. That is why everyone in the house used the address of Uncle’s shop as the address for correspondence. Uncle had a very interesting hobby, that is – whoever received a letter at his address, he would open it himself and then deliver it to the specific recipient. Who knows, maybe he enjoyed it.
One evening, Uncle came and stood in the courtyard and called my name in a serious voice. I responded to his call with some fear and some hesitation. Mother was busy with the evening puja. Mother quickly left her seat and came out with me. Uncle handed me an envelope filled with letters and said – Your letter.
Mother called out from behind – Whose letter? Where did it come from.
Uncle said in a more serious voice – Ask him. Then he said to me – put these things out of your mind and concentrate on your studies. Saying this, he made a prayer. Mother was a little surprised and said – read it. I was not only surprised but also felt a sense of relief inside. I could not believe that my letter was there. That too, addressed to Uncle.
Seeing the torn part of the envelope, I could not help but understand that my uncle had read this letter. Without saying anything, I took the letter and went inside the house. Mother followed me into my room.

. A Letter That Was Not Mine –
The letter was a secret, deep love letter.
Mother said – What happened? Whose letter?
I said – I don’t know. But the letter is not mine.
Mother went to the sitting room without further ado. I read the letter again and again.
The language and the incident of the letter were so deep in love that anyone who reads this letter will have the opportunity to put me in the position of a successful lover. I wonder how this letter came to my address?
I read the recipient’s address quite well, my name and address were written in the recipient’s address. I thought to myself, what a scandal has happened. How can I prove that this letter is not from someone I know? I thought to myself that it is not unusual for my uncle to be angry. At this age, no guardian would accept such a blunder. I felt very bad.
I went to my mother like a criminal even though I had not committed any crime. Noticing my hubris, my mother said – what happened, whose letter did you say? Why are you acting like this?
I told my mother everything that happened. After hearing everything, my mother said – what is your fault in this? Anyone can receive a letter to such a wrong address. Leave the letter.

. The Rumors Begin –
If someone finds out one day, I feel relieved because my mother took the incident as normal, but how can I explain it to others?
My love story started to become quite popular in the entire neighborhood.
One day, on my way back from school, one of my uncle’s relatives said – why are you making love so quickly?
Do you have any interest in studying? Or have you even learned that? I bowed my head. When I got home, I told my mother.
Mother consoled and said- Whatever he says, you should stay in your place, father. If you are good, the world is good. What anyone says will not affect you.

. The Cousin Who Changed Everything –
A few years later, I was an SSC examinee. A cousin of mine came to visit our house. He had a very beautiful and smiling face. Anyone who saw him would like him. He would want to love him. That is normal. At that time, I was busy preparing for the exam.
Many people in the neighborhood would come to see me for no reason just to catch a glimpse of my cousin.
Even though I understood their intentions, I would avoid them skillfully. The exam time approached. The exam center was very far away. That is why my father rented a room and sent me there long before the exam. On the day of my departure, my cousin’s eyes became quite mischievous.
He said- Maybe we will not meet again. I smiled and said- Why not? I will go to see you after completing my SSC exam. Hearing my words, a fountain of happiness started flowing in my cousin’s eyes. – Are you really going?
I said- Of course I will.
The first day of the SSC exam went well and I felt very happy inside. After the exam, I told my father, “Dad, I have three days off before the next exam. Should I leave the house?” My father agreed to my request. He said, “Okay. You will come back tomorrow.
Your mother will be happy.”

. A Confession I Never Expected –
After finishing the exam, I returned home with my father that evening. My cousin was staying at our house until then. Seeing me again made me feel like I was floating in a sea of happiness.
I was sitting at the study table. My cousin pulled a chair and sat next to me. This was the first time he sat very close to me. He whispered, “There is so much going on. Do you think I don’t understand anything?” I was quite surprised and said, “I mean!”
“I mean. What is this? That love letter in my cousin’s hand.” I said, “This letter is not mine.”
My cousin laughed and said, “You think I am stupid, don’t you?” After you left, I was looking for books in your drawer and found this love letter. Wow, such deep love. Can anyone write to someone about such deep love?
I didn’t go to you to hear your love story, I went there and there. I will leave tomorrow.
I swore – believe me, this love letter is not mine. I don’t even know how it got to my address.
Cousin smiled again and said – Wait. It’s done. You don’t have to explain anymore.
I understand what needs to be understood.
Now understand what I’m saying – I love you.

. The Final Letter –
I finished my SSC exam. Again, my uncle called me and gave me a letter. I was surprised. The envelope of this letter was intact, that is, uncle had not read the letter.
Father said – whose letter is it? Give it to me. I handed the letter to my father. Opening the envelope, father read the letter and handed it to me without answering.
I saw the letter written by my cousin –
My father stood and waited until I finished reading the letter. I understood that my father might say something.
When I finished reading the letter, my father asked in a calm voice, “Do you want to answer this letter?“
I looked at my father’s calm and gentle face and said – No, father. I will not write.

. A Memory That Never Faded –
This time the letter is not a love letter, but it is undoubtedly one that gives rise to quite an emotional moment.
Some words of that letter are still stored in my memory, which when I think of them, I still remember the happy moments of my childhood.
So finally, I have presented some parts of the last part of that letter for the reader – the last part of the letter –
Many travelers come and go along the river, the boatman does not keep any notice of them.
But suddenly, the boatman becomes blessed at the touch of a traveler’s foot. You are the same in my life-

The Most Dangerous Enemy May Be the One We Trust Most

Our biggest enemy may be the one we trust the most.
When we seek success in any work. Then we adopt some right action strategies for that work. In that case, we keep in mind and plan to get the company of very close or intimate people. Who can accelerate that work. Or they can directly or indirectly cooperate in the work. Their cooperation is very important in many cases. It is also seen that without their sympathy or support, the chances of your success in your work are slim. And you are quite optimistic that you will get the full cooperation of that person. Why did you not notice any lack of sincerity towards you in that person’s words, behavior, and work. Rather, it seems that for your happiness. To move you forward on the path of success. His positive role is immense. There is no limit to his regret for your small failure. His heart aches for your so little sorrow. His sorrow knows no bounds in his failure. And we, noticing that attitude, consider him very dear. We sow the seeds of great trust in him. We move forward with incredibly sincere love and trust in him. I think it is difficult to find another friend like him. But whenever you move forward in the field of work. You reach the threshold of success. At that moment, it turns out that the person you trusted the most is the biggest obstacle to your progress. The person on whom you thought of making this great work successful. That person turned out to be your absolute enemy. From your ideological point of view, he became the only reason for your failure. Which you could not even dream of, but in reality, it happened.
Therefore, the enemy coexists with all of us. You do not have to search for the enemy. At any moment, anyone can become your enemy. Be it your closest or closest person.
There is no specific reason for becoming an enemy. There is no definition. Even due to a slight difference of opinion, someone can suddenly become an enemy. Someone can become an enemy unknowingly even because of your displeasure.
Sometimes you can be the reason for my success and becoming the enemy of others. Your uncompromising principles and beautiful personality, beautiful work strategies can also become the reason for becoming an enemy.
In a word, it is difficult to find a specific definition of being an enemy of someone else. In another way, it is not very wrong to say that an enemy is your constant companion.

However, if you and I want to move forward successfully. Want to find the ultimate meaning of life. Want to make dreams come true. Then we must definitely get the company of the enemy and deal with them skillfully. We have to defeat them and move forward. There is no room for doubt in that.

Therefore, be skillful. Adopt the courage to face everything. Learn to recognize the enemy. Learn to overcome the enemy and move forward. Above all, enjoy life.

I really did.”
“But I couldn’t sleep a bit.”
Adrian turned, surprised.
“Why?”
Sophie smiled faintly —
“Every time I was about to fall asleep…
it felt like you were knocking on my door—
calling my name.”
Adrian paused.
“And if I actually did that… what would you do?”
Sophie stopped for a second — then laughed—
“I’d scream. Loudly. ‘Help! Someone save me!’”
She burst into laughter.
A voice came from behind—
“Good morning, Sophie.”
She quickly turned.
“Good morning. How are you, Keniel?”
“I’m good.”
Then he looked at Adrian —
“Good morning, Adrian.”
“Good morning,” Adrian replied.
Caniel said with a smile, “Isn’t Adrian enough to protect you, Sophie?”
Suddenly the scene changed.
