Ashish Kumer Banik

Ashish Kumer Banik is a Bangladeshi writer, poet, short story writer, playwright, lyricist and the founder of shailobd.com, a literary website for original creative writing and life-contemplative writing.

He was born on 26 March 1970 in Purba Bhujpur, Fatikchhari, Chittagong District, Bangladesh. He grew up in a family that deeply believed in culture, literature and spiritual values. Inspired by the rich family tradition of reading books, reading literature and cultural activities, he developed a deep passion for poetry, story writing, music and drama from an early age.

After completing his higher secondary education and obtaining a diploma in electronics engineering, he started his professional life. However, his deep passion for the creative arts encouraged him to leave his traditional job and build a career in the media and entertainment industry.

Before joining Channel i as the Chief Assistant Program Director, Ashish Kumer Banik worked as an assistant film director with renowned film director Mr. Malek Afsari at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). The opportunity to make creative contributions in television and film has added a unique dimension to his talent.

As a playwright and director, he wrote and directed the television drama Madhabi Lata, which was produced for submission to Bangladesh Television (BTV).”  He has also worked as the chief assistant director in several television dramas including ‘Lal Ghuri’, ‘Mukhosh’ and ‘Jal’ with acclaimed drama director Sajjad Hossain Dodul. In addition, he has written children’s dramas and screenplays for various television programs aired on BTV Chittagong Center.

Ashish Kumer Banik is also the author of several published literary works, including the poetry card books ‘Spandan’, ‘Romance’ and ‘Priyasparsh’. and a collection of short stories called ‘Tumi Robe Nirobe’. At the beginning of his creative journey, he composed and produced the modern Bengali song album ‘Jhara Pata’.
