Two deer lived in a forest. They loved each other very much. The other animals did not like their deep love. For some reason, the other animals wanted to torture the two deer. One time, the two deer decided to leave this forest and go to another forest nearby. One day, the deer couple left their old forest and went to another forest. After going to that forest, they both lived happily. One day, a fire suddenly broke out in the forest. All the animals started running away from the forest in their own way to save their lives. Helpless to survive, the deer couple also held each other’s hands and started running away from the forest. Running, the two of them reached a vast desert. Both of them were tired and exhausted. They sat down at one place. They were so thirsty that they were dying of thirst. Despite running here and there, they could not find any water anywhere in the desert. Suddenly, they saw a little water accumulated in the hole of Uth’s feet. The amount of water is so small that by drinking it, maybe one person’s life will be saved. In this state of mind, the lover said to the deer-lover, “You drink this water.” Then at least you will live. Hearing that, the lover deer objected vehemently and said – No. No. That is not possible. If I drink this water, I will live but you will die. I will not be able to bear your death. You drink this water. You live. My love for you will live. Hearing this, the lover deer said again – No. No. I cannot drink this water. Because, I love you more than my life.

দুটি তৃষ্ণার্ত হরিণ ও এক ফোটা জল
এক বনে দুটো হরিণ বাস করতো। তারা পরস্পরকে খুব ভালোবাসতো। তাদের এই গভীর ভালোবাসা অন্য পশুদের ভালো লাগতো না। কারণে অকারণে সেই হরিণ দুটোকে অন্য পশুরা নির্যাতন করতে চাইতো। এক সময় হরিণ দুটো সিদ্ধান্ত নিল, এ’বন ছেড়ে পাশের অন্য বনে গিয়ে তারা বাস করবে। একদিন সে’ হরিণ যুগল তাদের পুরানো বন ছেড়ে অন্য বনে চলে গেল। সে’বনে গিয়ে তারা দু’জন আনন্দে বাস করতে থাকে। একদিন সে’বনে হঠাৎ আগুন লাগে। সব পশুরা প্রাণ বাঁচাতে যে যার মত করে বন ছেড়ে পালাতে থাকে। নিরুপায় হয়ে বাঁচার জন্য সেই হরিণ যুগলও পরস্পরের হাত ধরে বন ছেড়ে ছুটতে লাগলো। ছুটতে ছুটতে তারা দু’জন বিশাল এক মরুভূমিতে গিয়ে পৌঁছল। দুজনেই তখন ক্লান্ত পরিশ্রান্ত। এক জায়গায় বসে পড়লো। পানি তেষ্ঠই তখন দুজনের প্রাণ যায় যায় অবস্থা। এদিক-ওদিক ছোটাছুটি করেও মরুভূমিতে কোথাও পানি সন্ধান মিলল না। হঠাৎ চোখে পড়ল উঠের পায়ের গর্তে সামান্য পানি জমা হয়ে আছে। সে’ পানির পরিমাণ এতই কম যে সে’ পানি পান করে কোনরকমে হয়তো একজনের প্রাণ রক্ষা পাবে। এ’মতাঅবস্থায় প্রেমিক হরিণ-প্রেমিকাকে বলল – এ’ পানি তুমি পান করো। তাহলে অন্তত তুমি বেঁচে থাকবে। সেই কথা শুনে প্রেমিকা হরিণ ঘোর আপত্তি জানিয়ে বলল – না। না। তা কিছুতেই হয় না। এ’ পানি খেলে আমি বেঁচে যাব কিন্তু তোমার মৃত্যু হবে। তোমার মৃত্যু আমি সহ্য করতে পারবো না।এ’ পানি তুমি পান করো। তুমি বেঁচে থাকো। তোমার মাঝে আমার ভালোবাসা বেঁচে থাকবে। এ’ কথা শুনে আবার প্রেমিক হরিণ বলে উঠলো – না। না। এ’ পানি আমি পান করতে পারি না। কারণ, আমি তোমাকে আমার প্রাণের চেয়ে বেশি ভালোবাসি।
